School’s out and so it’s time to travel. There are dozens of places in this world to which I can’t wait to return, but of course, I also have an arm-long list of yet-to-visit destinations I need to chip away at. I’m always faced with the travel dilemma of which to choose and where to go. Shall I delight in departing for the familiar or experience the thrill of embarking on a journey to corners unknown? Joe and I are keenly aware of the passage of time as both our sixtieth birthdays loom next March and so we’ve decided to shorten our one-day-we’ll-visit list by one. Tonight we head to Ireland – a brand new depot – for an inaugural visit. After seven days of hiking between Galway and Dingle, Chris and Caroline will join us for a week of exploring Dublin and the southern coast and then we’ll return to the western peninsulas. Will I add Ireland to the list of countries to which I must return? Or will it be a one-time destination where a single visit satisfies my curiosity?
